  • Organic food is currently pricier than the normal eatables in the market, which may make it seem like a luxury. However, for a healthy diet, if you can reduce the cost of unhealthy and unnecessary products, you can save more for the organics. The more you realise about the things you do not need, the more you can invest in organics. If you need a regular fried snack diet, then there is no point in thinking about going organic and wasting more money. Organic food is expensive because of the labour that goes into it, but with a few good tips, you too can afford to eat healthily.

    Have your own organic farm

With a little bit of effort, you can create your own organic farm where you can grow common vegetables and herbs. Herbs are more expensive to buy so if you can grow them at home, you are saving a ton of money. Use empty space around your house and empty cartoon boxes to plant fresh vegetable seeds and plants.

    Buy in bulk

Connect with your local stores and online service providers to check out for any deals that can save your money on the organics. Buying in bulk can get cheaper and can save you from regular shopping trips. Use good containers to store your food in the pantry and arrange them according to their needs.

    Eat less meat

Meat can be pretty expensive to eat. You can cut down on your meat intake and use the money to buy more vegetables instead. When you purchase meat, try to go for the parts which cost less than the prime cuts. This way, you are reducing your meat intake as well as adding more vegetables in your diet. Raw Food

    Buy in seasons

Know which food grows in which season as it will be much easier to afford when during its season. It will also make the fruits and vegetables taste better. Fresh produce is cheaper during the season times and is the time to try our new recipes.

    Reduce wastage

Mismanaging food can waste a lot of nutritious fruits and vegetables. This can also affect the market with a shortage of food for others and eventual price increases. Use what you will be eating and save the rest for later. Also, use the oldest things to cook first but make sure they are not too old to be consumed.

    Cook raw food

Convenience organic food can be more expensive than buying raw vegetables. Use a little bit more effort in cooking your food from scratch. That way, you will save more money and also develop skill in cooking. If it is time-consuming, you can cook food for the whole day and freeze it so that you can eat it later....

  • Smoothies are a quick way to gain all the necessary nutrients in one delicious mix. They are colourful and are rich in nutrients. While people mostly prefer using fruits for smoothies, using vegetables is also not a bad choice. The more nutritious your smoothie can be, the fresher you will feel through the day. But we will stick to the fruit smoothies here so you can enjoy the best fruit flavours anytime you want.

    Strawberry Almond Smoothie

Almonds are the best companion to strawberries as they pack rich protein in them and add to the flavour and thickness of the smoothie. It is a blend of strawberries, yoghurt, and almonds. You can even use almond milk as an alternative. Add orange juice for a lit bit of texture in the flavours.

    Ginger Plum Smoothie

Ginger and plum may not be the best partners, but in this case, they definitely do the magic. The things you need for this smoothie are ginger, plum, orange juice, and yoghurt. Blend in all the flavours together and enjoy this drink in all seasons (by using freeze plum).

    Blueberry Kale Smoothie

blueberry-kale Kale is a superfood for the health enthusiasts and is also a great flavour for a smoothie. Kale can be an acquired taste and may not impress everyone. You can use fruits like oranges, blueberries, and mangoes to tame the taste of kale while improving your health significantly.

    Banana Smoothie

  • All that growing your own organic food at home need is patient and the right ways of taking care of the growth. Different plants can have different requirements. A gardener must have the right knowledge about the plants before they can start growing them. Here are the steps to create your own organic garden successfully.

Pick your favourite foods to grow

Choose the vegetables and fruits that you enjoy eating and find out which one is the most difficult to find in stores. If the vegetable, fruit, or the herb is rare and expensive in the market, then that is what you can grow on your own. Some of the examples are lettuce, peppers, tomato, squash, and herbs.

     Create categories

Divide the crops that you want to grow into categories of seasonal crops. Find our which crop is best to grow in which season. Crops like carrots, peas, and broccoli can grow in cold seasons while beans, corn, and tomatoes can be grown easily during hot seasons. row-your-own-organic-food

    Create subcategories

Divide the crops even further based on seed crops and plant crops that need to be grown in the greenhouse and then moved to the garden as small plants. Crops like cabbage, tomatoes, peppers, and eggplant need to be first grown indoors. Cucumbers and watermelons may or may not need the greenhouse treatment.

Use tools to break the soil

You will need some effective tools and equipment to break down the soil in your garden and make it more fertile before you plant the seeds. Take the help of an expert while purchasing everything that you need for making your garden.

    Leave gaps

Always leave at least 12 inches of gaps between the crops so that you can walk through your garden. Also, keep your stick crops like watermelon and tomatoes separate from underground crops like Carrot and radish.

Start planting at the right time

The best time for planting cool-season crops is the beginning of April and the warm season crop need to be planted in late May or early June. Another great idea is to grow the seeds indoors so that you can have seedlings ready for the planting season.

    Weed out your garden

One easy way to stop the weed from growing around your crops is to put down leaves, newspaper, cardboard, or staws around your crops. You also need to weed your garden regularly to provide all the soil nutrients to your crops.

    Be quick through the seasons

When the season for cold crops starts ending, you should already be preparing to start your warm-season crops. Do not delay the plantations and continue weeding and harvesting through the summer. Again in October, as the cold weather approaches, begin planning the cold season crops once again as the warm season crops will start dying....

  • A great deal of energy, time and money will go into organising a memorable food and drink festival. Whether you’re running a smaller regional event, or one of the largest festivals in the country, there’s one common trend for organisers – selling lots of tickets.

Every festival wants to sell more tickets, reach as many new attendees as possible, and ensure it’s a great success for everyone involved. Read our quick guide covering 8 tasty ways to promote your food festival to learn how you can take your event to a whole new level. Also, it’s worth noting that your vendors may need to be sufficiently insured to deliver food.

    1. Sell event tickets in advance
    2. There are many food and drink festivals that still prefer to sell tickets upon entry. Although simple and easy, this isn’t necessarily the best model. It could be a risk as you don’t know how many people will attend until the actual day.

If you’re not committing people to attend, they will decide on the day, affecting demand and ticket sales. It also makes it difficult to understand what level of security and insurance you’ll need. Resourcing becomes another challenge, underestimate this and you can expect long queues, overestimate this, and you could be spending a lot more than you need to.

    3. Socialise
    4. It’s highly recommended that you use social media to promote your event across social media platforms such as Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. To market your food and drink festival correctly, here’s some of the questions you need to consider:

      • Which social networks does your target demographic primarily use?
      • What type of content will you share?
      • How often will you post, what hashtags have you decided upon?
      • Will you use any paid advertising?
    5. Image is everything
    6. Food and drink can be easily photographed, this also makes it a popular choice for sharing across social media.

Aside from creating beautiful food posts, you also need to ensure that your branding is consistent across other platforms, this includes emails, posters, tickets and the event website.

    7. Encourage your vendors to promote the festival
    8. Vendors may pay to have a stall at the event, but they can also help you attract more visitors. Often, the most successful food and drink festivals are those that create strong relationships between everyone involved. You want to try and make use of every partner’s social media and community and leverage this in the right way.

    9. Multiple ticket discounts
    10. It won’t come as a surprise that many people who attend food and drink festivals will come with their friends and families. Afterall, it is a social event for most. To make your event popular, it’s a good idea to sell tickets in multiple quantities, even providing discounts. This will help you ensure your event is sold out, in addition to pleasing your vendors.

    11. Create partnerships
    12. Although vendors will be your primary event partners, you need to think about other potential partnerships to reach your target audience such as the following:

      • Local businesses such as butchers, grocers and cafes
      • Smaller media outlets
      • Food and drink associations

Setting expectations from day one will help you nurture strong and successful relationships. You need to consider what role each party will play and its responsibilities. Transparency must be key throughout the whole communication process.

    13. Connect with popular influencers
    14. One of the most popular ways of using social media is to connect with influencers. This allows you to utilise their following to promote your event to a much larger audience.

Generally, there are two different types of influencer marketing, these are paid and organic. If you’re going for the paid route, the amount you will pay will depend on the influencer’s following. We highly recommend that you work with influencers with a more niche and relevant following, allowing you to better reach your target audience. If you’re opting for the organic route, try to build up your relationship in advance. Offering them incentives such as exclusive behind the scenes access to brands will give them great content to share on their social media. This will help them with engaging content ideas, and give you the needed promotion to reach the right people.

    15. In-depth content

For social media, behind the scenes access with interesting and humorous content is well worth sharing. People who love food and drink are very passionate, they want to know more than just what it tastes like. They’re interested in things like where it’s sourced from, who produced it, how it’s handled etc. This is an important part of the whole experience for them.

This is why giving them behind the scenes access to the people involved in creating the product from start to finish will make them feel included, making them want to attend your event. Vendors will also appreciate this promotion as it gives them the much-needed exposure ahead of the big day.

In summary, making sure you’re taking advantage of each relevant marketing strategy for your festival will be critical to its success. We hope you’re able to make use of the above tips and create a lively and memorable experience for everyone involved.
